Starting your day with optimism can only end in two ways, it being absolutely perfect or you'll end up insomniac because you are just so disappointed. Thankfully you'll only be aware of this at the end of day, so as they say, "ignorance is bliss".
Today I found myself in such a disposition. It is the day of the English Drama district level competition. We reached DJ school at around 7.45. I was amazed at how weird the hall was, well not the hall exactly, its the stage that I'm talking about. 1 word, inconvenient. We (maybe I shouldn't use 'we' as both me and Jal aren't exactly involved in the drama anymore, all we do is wear our national t-shirts just to show off, I'll use 'they' from now on) were first up and somehow Pn. Doreen superstitiously linked the play's title "One Way Mirror" to them going first to them getting first, haih so Pn. Doreen. Anyway after another failed attempt of giving a very uplifting prep talk, we parted ways, they into backstage while me and Jal to the LaLaTui's section.
Another solid performance, it was by no means perfect but solid nonetheless. At the point I was ready to grap the PSP and sulk like a damn "lansi" ex-national finalist, but of course I didn't because I was eagerly anticipating what other teams could put up.
Overall, competition was tougher this time around, well it should be. A few highlights, most of them had the whole angel and devil thing going, including us of course, while Catholic High School who came with us from Zone almost entirely revamped their drama, ending it by dedicating it to "Sharlinie and Nurin" (did I spell their names right? pardon me) so you basically get what it is about. Another play worth highlighting was one which won the crowd over and left Jal feeling bitter.
"WOW, what was it!" you say? It was a play about how this bad conscience of the main character influenced him to do make so many wrong decisions while the good conscience lost everytime until he couldn't take it, he unleashed the dreadful.. Pause,Rewind and Play buttons. That's right, he actually held up a cardboard with the universal pause sign on it and when he held up the rewind button, the whole scene slapstick-ly re-winded everything they did. Funny, slapstick-ly. There's more to that play but i wouldn't delve in it too much if not its going to make this post longer than it already is.
Now for the "making Jal bitter" part, this play had this sissy, gayish fat guy in a pink giordano shirt. You know how they are and I bet you're laughing right now and thats exactly what he did, he made the crowd laugh and he even got a standing ovation from most of the floor. Jal only had 4 words throughout his performance,
"I also can la"
Well thats the review. On to the results. Obviously they got slightly nervous, seeing how the crowd loved the play with the fat dude, and some other plays which were ok as well. As we were sitting down, the chief judge passed us by and whispered this word into the unexpecting ears of Pn. Doreen, "Sorry". I immediately went.. "SORRY!?!?". I was so tense and nervous at this point. Yes yes, I know its embarrassing, the all chunted ex-national finalist being scared of 1 word. Well I suppose I just can't take disappointment really well.
Although there were a few bumps so far, one of which is regarding my mom being pissed at the bank and I couldn't withdraw enough money to get myself a PSP. But oh well, although its only 3.30pm now, I can pretty much say that I would go to bed feeling contented today. Maybe Pn. Doreen should get a part-time job as a fortune teller.
